Everyone taking part will be completing a large butterfly design: the finished piece is intended as an outside decoration to mount
on a wall or within a garden area. (Teresa has made a smaller sample/ ‘maquette’ of what the larger finished pieces could look like,
and taken this photograph.)
If you have not done mosaics before, she will guide you through all the core skills of this fascinating craft: including working out
a design, laying and positioning the tiles, creating an adamante (the ‘flow’ of tiles), grouting, and finishing. If you have attended
one of her earlier workshops, then you will be free to work at your own pace, asking for advice as and when you need it.
The butterfly baseboard will be cut from weather resistant ply and will be approximately 18 inches (46 cm) wide. We will be using
a variety of ‘rich’ materials to work with: 2cm vitreous glass mosaic tiles, glitter tiles, Venetian ‘millefiore’ tiles and glass
baubles. All the materials and tools you need will be provided: waterproof PVA glue, Leponit Tile cutters, as well as a bag of
external quality grout to take away to complete the piece.
Teresa has more than 15 years experience in the medium. She has written four books on mosaic art which have been translated
and published in more than 20 countries, and has worked extensively on mosaic projects in local schools. She also undertakes
private commissions.
