Cameraless polymer photogravure
My prints are formed through direct contact between Dabberlocks and the photogravure plate, with ultraviolet light passing through the pressed fronds. The varying density of the seaweed determines the tonal range of the print, registering translucency, thickness, and edge as shifts in depth. The resulting images read as material impressions rather than representations—records of contact in which organic form is translated through light and pressure.
Impression considers the work as a point of connection across time. Produced through contact and light, the prints recall earlier photographic processes and histories of seaweed gathering along the same shores. The series reflects on how the material has been repeatedly discovered and recorded, where each image carries both present encounter and echoes of past practices.
