Made of Place: Atmospheric Textures with Guest Artist Jacqueline Ford
Jacqueline Ford
While our Artists in Residence are deeply anchoring this year's creative program, we are absolutely thrilled to welcome the wonderfully talented Jacqueline Ford as our special Guest Artist for the Made of Place exhibition.
Working from her studio in nearby Marlow, Jacqueline has spent over twenty years refining a practice that captures the true essence of the British coast. For this exhibition, she brings us a collection of spectacular, highly tactile paintings that highlight her masterery of a fascinating painting process.
For Jacqueline, the sea and her painting practice are inseparable. To capture the atmospheric, unpredictable textures of the British coastline and the familiar coastline of St Ives in Cornwall, she beautifully marries fluid watercolor techniques with the organic alchemy of coarse sea salt. By scattering salt crystals onto wet, deeply pigmented washes, the salt draws in the moisture and pigment as it dries. This leaves behind stunning, starburst-like blooms, crystalline formations, and weathered textures that perfectly mirror the natural crust of sea spray, tidelines, or ancient stones.
Pebble of Possibility -mixed media artwork by Jacqueline Ford
Her main sources of inspiration are the expansive Cornish coastlines—particularly the stunning beaches of St Ives. Rather than painting a rigid, literal copy of these places, Jacqueline uses the fluid, organic magic of the watercolor-and-salt reactions to evoke the feeling of being there in the elements.
The resulting artworks are beautifully luminous, layered, and full of subtle movement, bringing a deeply nostalgic and atmospheric presence to the gallery walls.
