Jacqueline Ford
Made of Place: Atmospheric Textures with Guest Artist Jacqueline Ford
While our Artists in Residence are deeply anchoring this year's creative program, we are absolutely thrilled to welcome the wonderfully talented Jacqueline Ford as our special Guest Artist for the Made of Place exhibition.
Working from her studio in nearby Marlow, Jacqueline has spent over twenty years refining a practice that captures the true essence of the British landscape. For this exhibition, she brings us a collection of spectacular, highly tactile paintings that highlight her masterery of a fascinating painting process.
Josie Clouting
Made of Place: Into the Wild Landscapes with Painter Josie Clouting
For painter Josie Clouting—one of our brilliant 2026 Artists in Residence—the creative process begins far beyond the walls of a traditional studio. It begins outside in the elements, responding intuitively to the vastness, light, and atmosphere of wild and ancient places.
Ali Mackie
Made of Place: Finding the ‘Everyday Magic’ with Ali Mackie.
Ali is a contemporary abstract and mixed-media artist who specializes in capturing what she beautifully terms "everyday magic." Her practice takes botanicals - familiar, and ordinary objects and transforms them into curiously abstracted, deeply textured compositions. Through her playful use of acrylics and mixed media, she injects an uplifting energy into the spaces her art inhabits.
Catherine Hammerton
Made of Place: In the Studio with Paper Sculptor Catherine Hammerton.
There is a quiet, powerful word in Welsh that doesn’t quite have a direct English translation: Hiraeth. It describes a deep longing for home, a connection to the landscape, and a collective sense of belonging. For our 2026 Artist in Residence, Catherine Hammerton, this feeling sits right at the heart of her breathtaking paper artistry.
Texture, Tension, and Tenderness: "Made of Place" has arrived at Emerald Gallery
Emerald Gallery officially presents "Made of Place," a spring exhibition celebrating the textures, tensions, and tenderness of where we live. Join us as we explore the evocative work of four incredible female artists—Ali Mackie, Catherine Hammerton, Jacqueline Ford, and Josie Clouting—and their unique interpretations of landscape, memory, and the ritual of belonging. From the Amersham threshold to the Cornish coast, come find the extraordinary within the familiar.
In conversation with Liz Meier
We’re really happy to be hosting Gather and grow by Liz Meier featuring her beautiful abstract garden paintings here at the gallery. Her work is inspired by time spent in gardens, taking in the colors, textures, and quiet moments that happen there, and turning them into colourful, expressive paintings. In this interview, we sit down with her to talk about where these works began, what keeps her coming back to gardens for inspiration, and what it’s been like bringing this exhibition together.
In conversation with Caroline Crawford
There’s something instantly familiar yet dreamlike about Caroline Crawford’s paintings. In her new exhibition, Mango Jam, she explores the beautiful blur between memory and reality — how the places that stay with us change and soften over time. Through her rhythmic use of colour, line, and texture, Caroline creates abstract worlds that feel alive with movement and emotion. Each piece invites you to wander, to remember, and to feel. We caught up with Caroline to chat about her inspiration for Mango Jam, her creative process, and the stories that shape her work.

In conversation with Catherine Hammerton
We’re so excited to welcome Catherine Hammerton to Emerald Gallery! Known for her stunning floral sculptures - imaginative paper artistry, and one-of-a-kind letterpress work, Cath brings a world of unique creations to our space.
To give you a closer look at the heart behind the art, we sat down for a relaxed conversation about her creative journey, what inspires her process, and the stories that bloom within this solo exhibtion.
In conversation with Matthew Barratt-Jones
There’s something special about a portrait—it’s more than just a face on a canvas; it’s a story frozen in time. Few people know that better than Matt Barratt-Jones, whose work captures not just what someone looks like, but who they are.
We recently had the chance to sit down with Matt to chat about his creative process, what inspires his portraits.
At first glance, Matt’s portraits may strike you with bold tattoos etched across skin but look closer and you’ll find a striking calm, almost meditative presence - set against expressions of softness and serenity.
It’s this interplay of edge and ease that makes Matt’s work so compelling. In this interview, we dive into how they capture raw individuality while holding onto a sense of quiet emotion, creating portraits that feel both powerful and unexpectedly tender.
In conversation with Gill Edwards
In conversation with Gill Edwards - Take a moment to delve into the artistic world of Gill, a painter with a rich background and inspiring career. This interview offers a fascinating glimpse into her creative processes, art practices, and the journey her exquisite pieces take as they find their way to art buyers.
In conversation with artist - Suzanne Winn
We are delighted to be hosting Hampshire based artist Suzanne Winn in the gallery with a stunning solo exhibition of drawings and paintings which offer a window into her lifelong love affair with nature.
The exhibition is named after the anthology “Devotions” by Mary Oliver, which draws together masterful poems rejoicing in the power of living simply and connecting with nature.
This is a celebration of the wild spaces and big skies that surround Suzanne’s home, and that more broadly symbolise our relationship with the natural world.
Suzanne shares with us insights into her creative processes and her life as an artist - so take a seat, grab a warm drink and enjoy this informal interview.
Decade - A celebration of friends
From 2013 to 2015 Emerald Framing & Gallery took stands at Windsor and Reading Contemporary Art Fairs. Cath from Emerald bought together and curated 2D and 3D artwork from six contemporary women artists working in different - but complementary media and styles.
Our final exhibition of 2024 brings ‘the band’ back together ten years on and promises to once again be a visual treat for art collectors and visitors to Emerald.
